Fire Retardant Spray and Fire Foam

The summer months bring droughts. It’s normal to see the grass start to look a little crispy, especially if there are bans on using the hoses to keep the garden fresh. There are ways to look after your garden, though. It’s all about using fire sprays and foams.

You’ll want to use something to protect your garden. This protects your home from the risk of wildfires, which are common as the temperatures rise and there is no rainfall in sight.

Using a Fire Retardant Spray

You can get a treatment such as Unishield TG-300 to use on your garden and lawn. This is a flame retardant chemical for dry grass and brush.

The great thing about this product in particular is that it lasts the whole season. It is also not harmful to animals, and you know you want t protect the wildlife. Around 1 acre of coverage is available for around $600.

It’s important to use this on a yearly basis. After all, it’s only a season-long coverage, and we suffer from drought-like weather on a regular basis. This does make is an expensive option for protecting the home from wildfires.

This is no protection against all wildfires, and you’ll still want to trim everything back in Zone 2. However, it’s a good extra layer of protection during the very bad years.

Opt for Fire Foam Instead

Another option is to invest in a fire foam instead. In fact, you’ll want a fire foam for the house, anyway. There are different types of offer protection against all types of fires.

A Class A foam or gel will work to put out fires, and they help to stretch the water that you do have. You’ll see a lot of firefighters using the foams instead of the water, as there’s only so much water available and it’s needed for the substantial wildfires.

A Class A foam is good against wood-type fires. They’re not the best for other types of fires. The benefits come from the air bubbles in the foam to smother the fires.

You can even use the foam as a preventative layer. Apply the foam to the grass to create a line of defense.

You don’t need to spend a lot of money on your fire foams. Foam-Fast is a great brand, available for $150. You’ll just attach it to a garden hose and spray away. The larger options are more elaborate and take up a lot of space—around half the size of a fridge. You’ll spend around $12,000 on a system that is designed to cover 5,000 sq. feet. This is the Aegis 200.

A foam system is great in the immediate need, but it only lasts around two hours. That’s if the wind and other elements aren’t affecting its longevity.
